I've explained myself well enough Suspicion of abusing the like system for personal vendetta is a reportable offence(?) If his reason is understandable then whatever lol
As a mod I can confirm that if he doesn't reply in 15 minutes you're legally allowed to delete the dislike.
well, a) they're literally fake internet points b) instead of calling them out you should do what rka said and pm them if it really bothers you
If you repeat the following lyrics I know you'll get through this... At first I was afraid, I was petrified Kept thinking I could never live without your likes But then I spent so many nights thinking how you voted me down And I grew strong And I learned how to get along And so you're back From outer space I just walked in to find you here with that sad look upon your face I should have changed that stupid lock, I should have made you leave your agree If I'd known for just one second you'd be back to dislike me Go on now, go, walk out the door Just turn around now 'Cause you're not welcome anymore Weren't you the one who tried to hurt me with dislikes Do you think I'd crumble Did you think I'd lay down and die? Oh no, not I, I will survive Oh, as long as I know how to get likes, I know I'll stay alive
Actually I've been getting unfriendly ratings from the same guy. Hope it's not the case and just his opinion.
I mean I got a dislike from someone for translating something. Who knows what motivates people to do that, but I didn't care about it enough to ask the dude why. All this fake internet point stuff is dust in the wind. I suppose it's the hallmark of a peaceful society that people actually have the time and exert the effort to care about it.
Do the mods constantly review whether the likes/dislikes are given properly? I just want to know if mine will get reviewed as well or is it just an arbitrary thing.
No, we are not making a habit of reviewing likes, dislikes, etc. Unless someone is egregiously abusing the system, we are not going to waste our time with such trivial nonsense.
Okay, just to make things clear: are mods allowed to remove likes & dislikes that they find 'questionable'? Excluding the situation you mentioned.
Spoiler: User wars go into PM, fam Wondered why I was summoned here, I hoped it was something important, but instead it's... Since you are so eager to know, to the point that you actually are the only person coming all the way here to make such a public request, there you are: It was completely asinine (and clueless of the situation). It contributed nothing relevant to the discussion, on the contrary only cheapening it with a stereotyped response that was totally out of place. Deliberately or not. On top of that, I perceived it as lacking tact and being mocking in tone for no reason whatsoever, which only further elicited my dislike (hence, you know, the reason there exists a button designed so that the users may express their sense of "Dislike"). It had the misfortune of falling into my sight on a day when I wasn't in the mood at all, though I assure you this part didn't influence my decision at the time unlike the rest. All of which could have been avoided by putting a little more thought into that message, so that it wouldn't come across as any of the above. Leaving it unposted could have also been another option, if you couldn't think of anything better. Also, next time please do as rka had suggested in his post, albeit ironically. Last time I checked this thread is for users to air their grievances at the administrators, not for users to air grievances at other users. This is what private messages are for -- or, at a stretch, we can always select some back alley from Google Maps at random and meet there for a more face-to-face debate. ;) As a final thing, one word of advice: let's not get too obsessed with this ratings thing, to the point of feeling as if your honor has been hurt when you get disliked for any sub-standard post you make, otherwise this forum seriously runs the risk of becoming worse than OneH*llyu and turning more like a bad Black Mirror episode.
If someone both liked and disliked the same post, would you leave both, delete the like, delete the dislike, or delete them both? Those seemed questionable to me. Mods are faced with tough choices like this everyday.
I wasn't going around checking reasonable posts for dislikes, I just happened across the comment I replied to and figured it was really bad. They don't mean anything so I'd rather not get into a habit of checking for inappropriate dislikes. It's not even about unreasonable dislikes, I genuinely believed the person who rated didn't know the difference between rating the post and the content (message vs messenger) I recently got my first dislike on a 1.5 year old comment calling a performance bad, with the disliker also calling it bad on the next page, and another from a user with literally zero posts. I wouldn't be surprised if there are more "unreasonable" dislikes than reasonable ones, but I believe they let people vent some steam instead of flaming so I think they're useful.
Mario coming here over a single fake internet point is pretty silly, but not half so silly and asinine (here this word is actually appropriate) as your attempts to justify that dislike. Good grief, did you even read what you wrote? The first three are complete bull*, and the last one is the only one that makes sense but you discount it as "didn't influence your decision". Also, that final paragraph. So you do use dislikes as attempted censorship.
