I'm glad to hear that people are enjoying my translations! I'll be working on more in the future!

A Short Note - For this song, I had to once again make stretches on some of the word's meanings, and there are actually parts that still don't settle well with me. However, I figured it best to post it anyway rather than looming over it for an eternity. Nevertheless, I looked it over several times, and I think it's pretty good overall.

So yeah - without further ado, here's the next song translation! I hope you like it!

“Aozora no soba ni ite” – “Being next to the blue sky”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

I met you here at this place
While we were looking up to the sky
The shapes of the white clouds
We pointed to and named each one

    As with any important feeling,
    Before long it disappears
    Swept away by the wind
    But our way
    Is not like the clouds

    The gentle times
Serve as an eraser for love’s splinters

Being next to the blue sky
Even though you go along that road,
    The moment now
Time and time again I’ll remember…
Being next to the blue sky
    Beneath a new season
    I hold up my hand
    Sparklingly, I smile

If by chance, the heart loses its way
    Look up to the sky,
    Give a name
    To a cloud you see,
And I won’t leave your side

With love, like the limitless horizon,
We’ll be together no matter where we go

“Good-bye” is such a fitting word
Tears flow out onto these cheeks
    With today’s memory
    Like a promise,
We’ll move on past these clothes
“Good-bye” is such a fitting word
One day, we should be able to meet
    Therefore, until that day
We now walk along a different road

Being next to the blue sky
Even though you go along that road,
    The moment now
Time and time again I’ll remember…
Being next to the blue sky
    Beneath a new season
    I hold up my hand
    Sparklingly, I smile

Gideon123 --- AWESOME work!! Really.. Thank you for taking the time to do this.

However, can I make an odd request? Can you not translate "Dakedo..." and "Dareka no tame ni?" Or if you do, PM me so I don't look at it? I don't want to see the words in English, I'm afraid they'll lose their meaning.

I want the lyrics to those songs to stay pure in Japanese. While I can understand them, I just don't want to see them in English.

Sorry for the strange request, I hope you can understand why.

Tatami Mats - Thanks for the props! Your request certainly is an odd one. As fun as it is on my part to the translate the songs, most of the pleasure comes from proving translations for the people who don't have an idea of what the songs mean. I can't say I truly understand why you don't want me to translate "Dakedo..." and "Dareka no tame ni", though personally sense that you have a particular sentiment towards those two songs, and that personal sentiment would be lost by sharing the song's meaning with the rest of the world. Or perhaps theres a fear that some of that sentimental value will be lost in translation from Japanese to English. The best I can do is to translate the two songs, post them on this thread, and then warn you of what pages they're on so that you don't get to see them. I hope you can understand my position.

A Note to Everyone in General - So as to live up to what I posted earlier, here's is my translation of "BINGO!", despite the fact that a translation for this song has been posted already. I compared my work to that of other people, and quite frankly I like mine better - maybe I'm just being proud.

No seriously, this song was pretty tricky to translate. Once again, I made stretches on both word order and word meanings, but overall I think it's pretty good.

    “BINGO!”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    (1! 2! 3! 4!)
    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW

    As for the reason,
    I don’t even know
From the moment we were introduced,
It was like being struck by a lightning bolt
    (Fall in love)
By such a thing as an ideal type
    I was attracted here
    I don’t remember
    At what speed…

    Our eyes meet
    And my chest beats quickly
    From within my heart
    I cry out without thinking
    (I’m loving you)

    BINGO! BINGO!
    I met you by chance
    (Finally)
    BINGO! BINGO!
    It’s come to the point
Where it’s born and it begins
    (I’ll take a chance)
    BINGO! BINGO!
Until now, my gaze hasn’t wavered
    I’m glad I waited
    Supported by Fate…
    (Love, Love me do!)

    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW

    Here, with an awakened miracle
It’s like I want to skip about
    I want to thank God
    (Thank you!)
    When Chance presents
    A prepared scenario,
    Nobody gets to know
    What’s going on…

    Each time I think
    About you,
    Even taking a breath
    Becomes painful
    (Crazy for you!)

    HIT! HIT!
    Struck in the very middle!
    (Just met you)
    HIT! HIT!
    My heart
    Has been stolen
    (Stole my heart)
    HIT! HIT!
Though there’s been a sort of feeling
Like I can meet you anywhere,
    You are a surprise
    (Oh my God!)

    BINGO! BINGO!
    I met you by chance
    (Finally)
    BINGO! BINGO!
    It’s come to the point
    Where it’s born and begins
    (I’ll take a chance)
    BINGO! BINGO!
Until now, my gaze hasn’t wavered
    I’m glad I waited
    Supported by Fate…
    (Love, Love me do!)

    HIT! HIT!
    Struck in the very middle!
    (Just met you)
    HIT! HIT!
    My heart
    Has been stolen
    (Stole my heart)
    HIT! HIT!
Though there’s been a sort of feeling
Like I can meet you anywhere,
    You are a surprise
    (Oh my God!)

    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW
    WOW WOW WOW

    WOW WOW WOW

    Of course. 100%

I apologize for not making that clear earlier because I instantly realized my request came off as very selfish. Of course you can translate them. Anybody who wants to know them shouldn't refrain from it just because of what I want.

Furthermore, you are correct with your guess. For me I understand the meaning of the lyrics of "dakedo" and "dareka no tame ni" in Japanese. The meanings are still in Japanese for me, and I know what they are without needing the English subtitle. HOWEVER, that is NOT me saying "Look how freaking cool I am because I know it," but rather it is me saying "I don't wanna leave the soft comfy blanket of Japanese goodness" I want to know those songs in Japanese, not in English. I don't know why I feel so uptight and rigid about this...but for me the songs would lose their impact if I was reading an English translation of them.

Thanks for your understanding, and you can do whatever you'd like! :) So just for the record, I have not made a request for either of those songs ;)

^ and i would like to add my own strange request:

could anyone provide an interpretation (not a translation) for the song Bird? it's been almost 6 months since i started analyzing that song.. and the meaning still eludes me. believe me... the meaning is NOT in the lyrics. hehe.

this is what makes this song so special for me :)

This song's been discussed in one of the other threads, so I figured I'd take a stab at translating it anyway. Plus, I think it's a really cute song!

Youkokurama - If you give me a chance to look it over, I can offer an interpretation for "Bird'. However, that would require me to translate it, which in turn would result in me posting it. So yeah, while you're not asking for a translation of the song, I'll end up putting one up anyway.

So yeah - without further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys enjoy it!

    “Dreamin’ Girls”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

When the chime rings, school is let out
And I continue to frequent my lessons
I aim for the yearned star
    Dreamin’ girls

Everyone among us is a rival
But we’re colleagues watching the same dream
We overcome the sweat and the tears
    Dreamin’ girls
    WOW WOW

    AH Oh, one day surely
    On a big stage
    Showered in the spotlight
Becoming the lead role for song and dance
I imagine it all in front of the mirror
I aim for a loud cheer from the stadium seats
As the future me waves out a hand…
    Dreamin’ girls

    AH Oh, all the while
    Watch over me
With just a little bit at a time
    I’ll stretch out my hand
    Until the dream comes true

Each time a girl becomes a year older,
She wants to take a stab at a love
But sadly there isn’t even free time for that
    Dreamin’ girls

A Note if You Guys Don't Mind - I know this song's been posted already, but I figured I'd take a stab at it anyway. There are slight nuances that differentiate my translation from the previously posted one - namely, my translation of the title itself.

The previous one translated "Aitakatta" as "I wanna meet you". However, I opted for the literal translation - "I wanted to meet you" - with an emphasis on the past tense. This may come off as a little awkward - particularly jumping between past and present tense in a written body of work - but my impression of the song is that the narrator finally realized her feelings (I'm guessing the narrator is a girl, though the effect is the same if it's a guy) some time in the past, and is now giving her all to convey her true feelings in the present. Thus, a juxtaposition of both past tense ("I wanted to meet you") with the present tense ("I pedal and climb this hill")

I'm sorry if that was a bit lengthy and confusing, but it made sense to me if translated it like that.

So yeah! With out further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys enjoy it!

“Aitakatta” – “I wanted to meet you”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    You…

On my bike with all my strength
    I pedal
    And climb this hill
    Even with the blowing wind
Against my shirt, I’m still not fast enough

    At last I noticed
    My true feelings
I want to go on honestly
On this one and only road
    I run!

    If it’s love,
    Then say it’s love
    Without the façade,
    Let’s just be honest
    If it’s love,
    Then say it’s love
    From inside our chest
    Let’s be earnest about it

    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    You…

    Gradually it comes out
The swipe I don’t wipe away
    From this face without make-up
A tunnel of sunbeams through the leaves
A shortcut that continues to the summer

    Even though all that
    I can’t say so well,
It’s okay if I’m straight about it
With my own way of living
    I’ll run!

    Because you’re more important
    Than anyone else
    Despite the cold shoulder
    I won’t regret
    Because you’re more important
    Than anyone else
    This feeling
    I wanted to convey

    If it’s love,
    Then say it’s love
    Without the façade,
    Let’s just be honest
    If it’s love,
    Then say it’s love
    Let’s admit
    What’s inside our chest

    LALALALALA
    LALALALALALALA
    LALALALALA
    LALALALALALALA
    LALALALALA
    LALALALALALALA
    LALALALALA
    LALALALALALALA

    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    I wanted to meet you
    Yes!
    You…

    I wanted to meet you!!

A Little Side Note - From what I've gathered from Urban Dictionary, a "cherry boy" is a military term for a new or inexperienced soldier. It can also be a term to describe a virgin. Either way, a "cherry boy" is pretty much a guy who's inexperienced at something. And likewise, the same would most likely follow for a "cherry girl" - a girl who's inexperienced at something.

So yeah! Without further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys like it!

“Nagisa no CHERRY” – “Cherry of the Sea Shore”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    You run
    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    Splashing the water

On the white sandy beach with these embroidered sandals,
The crashing waves carry the summer

    If it’s a barefoot love
    It can go anywhere
    I longed for it
    At seventeen

    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    I run away
    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    Chase after me!

    The round sun burns hotly
At that moment, an extend hand holds another hand

    My first kiss
    Was sweet and sour
    I didn’t know
    The sea shore’s kiss

    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    I close my eyes
    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    Amidst the sea breeze

In the chest of your T-shirt
    While I buried my face,
    I was listening
    To you like the sea

    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    I run away
    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    Chase after me!

    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    You run
    CHERRY CHERRY BOY
    CHERRY CHERRY GIRL
    Splashing the water

“GLASS no I LOVE YOU” – “An ‘I Love You’ of Glass”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

If I can come 1cm closer,
I wonder if this feeling will conveyed
    A delicate distance between us
An ‘I love you’ of glass

    The sunflowers bloom
    And my heart races
    Just walking next to you
    Gets me soaring
    The season begins

By accident I catch a glance
    Of your profile
    Suddenly our eyes meet
    Um…um…I’m flustered

    If I come 10cm closer,
Even a small voice can be heard
    With our delicate hearts
An ‘I love you’ of glass

    The moment you touched
    My right shoulder
    My body temperature heated up
    And climaxed

    Without speaking,
    Time empties
    Without laughing,
    Well…well…we’re having fun

If I can come 1cm closer,
I wonder if this feeling will conveyed
    A delicate distance between us
An ‘I love you’ of glass

    If I come 10cm closer,
Even a small voice can be heard
    With our delicate hearts
An ‘I love you’ of glass

SIDE NOTE - The song uses the term "TERUTERUBOUZU". I looked it up on several sources and found it to be a paper doll with a round head hung by string that children pray to for nice weather. I figured it best to translate it as "I pray for nice weather then" rather than just leaving the word as is so that it can flow well with the rest of the English translation.

So yeah! Without further ado, here's the next translation! I hope you guys enjoy it!

“Koi no PLAN” – “Plan of Love”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

This Sunday at the amusement park
    Let’s have a date
    With the merry-go-round
    The jet coaster
The tea cups and a little romance, too

    With a thought-out one-piece
And a hairstyle, I want to meet you
When I was looking at the calendar,
I couldn’t sleep until the morning

This plan of love is important
    A meticulously planned schedule
With that and this, I want to be as greedy as I want to be
    I imagine
    A pleasant event

Just the two of on the Ferris wheel
    A cradle of love, right?
    With some soft cream
    If you’re tasting it,
A kiss should taste a little sweet

It’s not a secret from anyone,
But I won’t talk about it with my friends
    With a cell phone picture
I wonder if I should brag about it through mail

Preparing for love is a fun thing
An ideal type painted in my head
Even though today isn’t Sunday yet,
The wait can’t be cut shorter
I pray for nice weather then

    Just one more day, right?
    The most essential part
    It’s not just a fantasy
I have to ask you on a date

This plan of love is important
    A meticulously planned schedule
With that and this, I want to be as greedy as I want to be
    I imagine
    A pleasant event

Preparing for love is a fun thing
An ideal type painted in my head
Even though today isn’t Sunday yet,
The wait can’t be cut shorter
I pray for nice weather then

GTO - I don't see anything wrong with using my translations for your group's fansub release, so by all means go right ahead. Just give proper credit where it's due, and I'll be happy.

-=ProteosAgna=- - According to my records, you requested "Tadaima renaichuu" several pages back. Don't worry, the song is on my list of requests to translate. I try jumping between translating songs in the order of Stage album releases and translating requests. I'll be getting back to translating requests soon.

foojason - Speaking for myself, you and everyone else are all very much welcome! I hope to continue promptly posting my translations during my busy semester.

So yeah! Without further ado, here's the next song translation! I hope you guys like it!

“Senaka kara dakishimete” – “Hold me from behind”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

    My ponytail points over there
I puff out my cheeks on purpose
In the middle of a pout
    You’re in trouble
Because you won’t look at only me

    Hold me from behind
If you want to reconcile things
With a strong love beyond words,
I want to be turned around
    Hold me from behind
    With your wide arms
    Wrap around my selfishness
Even though I like you like this…

To grow to love someone a lot
And worry about the trivial things
    Is this love’s capacity
    I’m testing you
    Hey, I’m sorry
    I can’t be well-mannered

    Hold me until I break
To the point where I can’t breathe
I just want to be able to be closer
    To your heart
    Hold me until I break
    Forgive an inexperienced love
Without speaking for a second time,
    Captivate me

    Hold me from behind
If you want to reconcile things
With a strong love beyond words,
I want you turn me around

    Hold me until I break
To the point where I can’t breathe
I want to just be able to be closer
    To your heart
    Hold me until I break
    Forgive an inexperienced love
Without speaking for a second time,
    Captivate me

An Important Note - Tara posted a translation of this song several pages back, which by the way I think is really good. As such, not only did I face the challenge of translating the song, but also the challenge of differentiating my translation from the previous one. I even watched the Shuffle Concert version of this song as performed by Ms. Takamina and Ms. Nakanishi in an attempt to truly differentiate my work from Tara's.

Granted, some lines could not be translated any other way from what Tara wrote, and some stylistic elements I just had to use - namely, a color-coding scheme since this is an actual duet (I'm limited on what colors I can actually choose for this forum, but what Tara used looked good already) and the ellipses after some of the "If's" to designate a pause in the narrators' thoughts and a collection of their composures amidst the sad tone of the song.

Nevertheless, I tried my hardest to provide something different while at the same time retaining the overall imagery and feel of the original Japanese lyrics.

So yeah! Without further ado, here's the next translation as requested by Nessy! I hope you guys like it!

“Kinjirareta futari” – “A Forbidden Pair”
Original lyrics by Mr. Akimoto Yasushi
    Translation by gideon123

In the grove is a morning mist
    Like somebody’s sigh
By the lake not on the map,
    The waters are yet asleep

    At a loss for words
This sadness is far too quiet
    A memory’s last scene –
This place I wanted to come to one day

    Darling, no matter where
    Love me

    Darling, always
    I am loved

    We believed in eternity
    The crime –
    We met by chance

    Kindly
    Forgive me
For a love that won’t come true
As I hide it in my chest
    Kindly
    To a cruel fate
    I entrust myself…
    A forbidden pair

“Like a pebble thrown into the lake,
The ripples stretch out to my heart.
It’s no good with somebody else.
Like that, I can’t go on, right?”

    The boat along the riverbank
    Is tied down with rope
If we run away from here,
It’ll start a trip to a faraway world
    Darling, please don’t blame
    Yourself…
    Darling, please don’t cry
    By yourself…

    Because we knew happiness,
    A kiss
    Is a strong bond

    If…
    If I wasn’t born a woman,
We wouldn’t have had to separate
    If…
If I was born a man
    We’d be a connected pair

    Darling, no matter where
    I love you

    Darling, no matter where
    I was loved

    We believed in eternity
    The crime –
    A female companion

    Kindly
    Kindly
    Forgive me
For a love that won’t come true
As I hide it in my chest
    Kindly
    To a cruel fate
    I entrust myself…
    A forbidden couple

    If I wasn’t born a woman,
We wouldn’t have had to separate
    If…
If I was born a man
    We’d be a connected pair

“Come, let’s head out on the lake in this boat.
If you get tired from rowing, fall asleep in my arms.
Because we can always love each other amidst a dream…”

Well, since there's no translation out there, I took a stab at interpreting the Engrish'd lyrics Google Translation gave me. It's almost 4 AM, so I apologize if none of this makes sense. The verses themselves are just too Engrish'd to figure out for me, but I think I've got a better grasp on the choruses.

Google TELLS me that in parts of the song, they sing about the "sad bird" that "forgot how to fly," and talks about being shut in. Whenever I think of bird symbolism-- two things can come to mind-- birds flying freely, or those trapped in a cage. In the case of this song, I think of the latter-- the singer feels trapped inside something, whether it be love ('ai wa'), or her own life. Moreover, I think the song's a lot about a broken spirit. Some tragedy or event happened that hurt her greatly-- so much so that she loses the will to, sort of, spread her wings and fly and enjoy freedom and whatnot. She doesn't have it in her soul to be happy again, even if she "feels the wind," or, say, others being happy around her.

    I'm now going to bed. Hopefully I'll take another look at that tomorrow when I'm thinking a bit more clearly, but I think the song's extremely subjective as it is. (Although many songs can be considered pretty damn subjective..) BUT I hope some of that made sense! And I always could be wrong! ^^;
