From the perspective of a humble reader, when things get locked seems completely arbitrary. One need only look at any of the single threads to realize that page after page is filled when there are no hard facts to discuss and people post page after page of rampant speculation and predictions obviously based on a desire to have their wishes fulfilled.

So, in the spirit of rampant speculation and wish fulfillment, I will kick things off.

I think this next photobook will obviously embrace the growing, yet still not formally organized, religion that is growing behind the recognition of the divinity of Watanabe Mayu.

This will impact the book in two ways.

First, the photos will be elevated in their reverence of Watanabe Mayu as the central reason for the universe to exist. Expect pictures portraying how even the least among the creatures of the universe serve to create a world in which Watanabe Mayu may be happy. This cosmological approach will then in turn help spread the true religion that the universe exists to make Watanabe Mayu happy.

Second, the photos will be more oriented towards pleasing Watanabe Mayu and making her happy. These will not necessarily be pictures of her being overtly happy, but pictures that, upon their publication, will make he even happier. These might include close ups of her bottom, as that pleased her so much in the first book, or work that challenges and stretches her abilities in ways she is proud of, like standing on her hands and eating a candy bar. Perhaps we will be treated to a picture of her with her closest friends. It can be difficult to know what pleases out God, so we do not know for certain.

With any luck, the apostate practice of referring to Watanabe Mayu as a "Goddess" will hopefully come to an end. She is a God and the first amongst the Gods of the universe. There is no reason to distinguish her from the most important creatures of the universe by indicating that she is female. While the God Watanabe Mayu is female, she is only female because she chooses to be. The defining quality of Watanabe Mayu is that Watanabe is the center of the universe and the universe exists to make her happy. If she was happier living as a boy, it would be good, perfect, and just, as everything that makes her happy is good, perfect, and just. Would Watanabe still be a Goddess then? Only in the capacity that she is always a God. Thus it is always better to refer to her as God in the gender neutral sense as that is the center of her being, not her gender identity. Expect this new photobook to deconstruct that gender identity in order to emphasize the core of her being is the fact she is the central deity of creation, not that she is male or female at any given moment.

The blessings of Watanabe Mayu be upon us all.

This second photobook will focus i believe on the transition between the CG mayu we all known during the first era, to the grown up mayu fitted to be everyone Ace. She worked a lot for that and i think it will pay off.

Just looking at the NHK music award...she is aknowledged as the new center of AKB by effort and effort only.
Still i want her to come back sometimes to the cute, young mayu i used to know. But both perspective will be the best.

Can someone remind me the previous sale of the first photobook?

Since this thread was initially locked, I started to discuss with ithebigc via PM (and have discussed with others via twitter anyway), but the points are more general so I'll write similar things here...

Firstly, I hope this photobook doesn't have a cover anything like Kasai's, but since that's now being ruled as breaking child pornography, I guess we won't. But I would not want anything in a similar style, and did not like the cover of her first photobook.

Just what is this contest on the website? People have to send in photos of themselves in school uniform? And then does Mayu wear the winning school uniforms in the book? I've already seen a quite disturbing picture of a fat, middle-aged Japanese guy in a girls school uniform for this competition...

I hope the book isn't just full of school uniform pictures, we got a load of those with Hikaru Monotachi, and, well, on the whole they were quite dull - with the only interesting bits where she had instruments or sports equipment. However, I wouldn't like the whole thing to be too ecchi as described above.

What I would like is a real variety of photos in all sorts of styles, clothes, and locations. Her "fashion dictionary" series and her photos in "Sweet" magazine quite a while ago, are amazing. Of course, I would want some gravure too, especially those which show off her greatest assets.

By who is Kasai's cover being ruled as such? Please source such information.

The cover of Watanabe Mayu's first photobook was beautiful and perfect. Any cover she would do would be beautiful and perfect. Watanabe Mayu does not give us what we want, but what is proper and right- what we need. Our desires are imperfect, so we must change our desires to fit with what Watanabe Mayu deems appropriate bless us with, for all gifts from her are a blessing to humanity.

Todd, why can't you ever have any normal posts for once? It makes it so hard to take you seriously. I don't even know how you come up with half the stuff you write.

Anyways, I agree with Jul, Mayuyu doesn't need any of those stupid controversial covers just for the sake of drumming up shock factor. I also found the last one awkward, in the sense that it didn't fit with Mayuyu's personality or even the rest of the photobook at all. It was a genuinely good photobook, marred by a cover that seemed like an attempt by whoever thought of it to appeal to the perverted crowd, and I really hope it didn't turn too many people away from buying it.

This is essentially why I was ecstatic to find out she was going to get a new solo photobook several days ago. I don't think anything else can really get me as excited to spend my money like this. I've been longing for a new photobook ever since 2012's change into the beautiful girl she is now, because her recent pictures from blogs and magazines from the last 6 months or so have blown all her previous years' pictures completely out of the water. I don't understand how or why she looks so much prettier and cuter now, but it is what it is. A full photobook of her as she is now, I want to throw all my money at it

Yeah, I pretty much agree with Jul3 and ithebigc.

I didn't like the first PB's cover. That was a bit of a tacky way to grab attraction (still have to admit most Japanese gravures I've seen are not exactly much more tasteful...). Tho the tackiness has now been far exceeded by Kasai's PB (ex)cover. I actually think both Mayu's 1st and Kasai's PBs went in similar direction, which is a normal, cute, some gravure PB inside with a provocative cover. Luckily, Mayu's wasn't on the wrong side of provocativeness (well, I mean MY level of provocativeness anyway, I assume Mayu's PB cover is something normal for gravure, right? Like ithebigc said, I think it didn't suit her image).


I'm looking forward to a more adult, grown-up look this time, like Jul3 said. Some recent photoshoots Mayu's done lately have been really good, the fashion dictionary one and some other cute adult girly or even boyish ones. It would be great if they'd give her some high-fashion make-up instead of the usual natural-less-is-more make-up too. Girl is seriously gorgeous, not every AKB member can pull off that look.


Although I wonder one thing, has it been said anywhere that the concept will be school uniforms or is that something I myself drew the connection with the uniform competition? Cos if it's a school uniform concept, then it will repeat HikaMono's photocards, right? I hope it's not so (not that I don't love Mayuyu in seifukus, but we've seen a lot of that).

I have written at least one quite serious and tame post.

It is very easy to come up with my posts regarding Watanabe Mayu.

One starts from the (true) premise that Watanabe Mayu can do nothing wrong. She is perfect, but the world is imperfect and everyone in it imperfect. The rest just follows from straight up logic.

For example, anyone who thinks there is something wrong with the first photobook is wrong, unless Watanabe Mayu thinks something with it is wrong, but only her opinion is correct. So if you think something is wrong, but it is different from what Watanabe Mayu thinks, you would be wrong because she if always right.

In addition, everything Watanabe Mayu does is perfect as she can do no wrong.

Thus the cover of the first photobook was perfect because it was something she made. If you disagree, you are simply wrong.

Just because you do not believe in gravity, it does not change the fact that you will fall because of gravity.

Much like gravity, Watanabe Mayu is a force of nature in the universe, and one that is perfect. The corectness of our opinions can be objectively measured then by how much they conform to the recognition of the perfection of Watanabe Mayu.

The logic is quite simple. And as everything else in the universe is imperfect, any failure to recognize the true perfection of Watanabe Mayu must be attributed in the failure of imperfect beings to recognize this perfection. Thus it is the failings in the observer, not the observed, that lead some to (mistakenly) conclude there is some imperfection in the cover of Watanabe Mayu's photobook.

When I am less tired I could maybe draw this out with abstract logic. It is all really quite simple and beautiful in its logic.

I'm waiting for a nice cover of this. I definitely think the contents will be great seeing how good her 1st photobook but her cover on the 1st one is kinda :nbcause i can't stare on her while she's like that). I want a cover that i can stare on it anytime .

my hopes for this new mayuyu photobook that will make me spend my money..

i wish to see her more variety sides in this photobook..like cool..fierce image..and beautiful just like in her fashion dictionary photoshoot which was all my time favourite shoot of her that make me stare at her everyday
less uniform school photoshoot bcoz already see a lot in her single..if want mayuyu in student image..let her wear sport costume..like for hockey and maybe gymnastics or ballet..

maybe still include her gravure photoshoot to please wota fans and of coz her oshirii shot

also more variety in her hairstyles..except short hair ..her face without her bangs just like her last photobook was also my all time favourite picture...

But am I reading that right? 256 pages? For 1400 yen? Doesn't that seem a little bit....off? I mean, that's a lot of pages and photos, for very little money.

True. Photobook are considered like piece of collection. And 1400 is the price of a fashion magazine. Quite strange to be honest.

I also heard that people use to buy the first photoshoot as proof of another step into idol's career, but doesn't tend to buy the second one. Is that true?

Maybe a summary of akb48 member photoshoot could speak up about this tendency. I am not sure.

1400 yen is actually pretty standard as far as paperback idol photobooks go...I think Milky's was like 1200 yen or something, and Acchan's Bukiyou one was 1800 yen. So 1400 is somewhere in between. What's weird is the high amount of pages - with 256 pages, I'd expect to see in hardcover and commanding a much higher price.

I'm not sure about whether or not less people buy the 2nd one. I know that the aforementioned Bukiyou was the top photobook of the first half of 2012 according to Oricon, but that was like her 5th photobook. Personally, after seeing the quality of the first one, I'm more than excited to throw down money on the second one, ESPECIALLY since she looks even prettier nowadays than back when the first one released.
