An interview with Gatanee that was featured on today's issue of Nikkan Sports Speaking of which, here's also a nice three-page article on Dwango's website from some time ago, appropriately titled "The entity that props up NGT, what are Nishigata Marina's charms" https://news.dwango.jp/2017/04/17/129976/idol/

Was just watching Gatanee's 8/10 SR... and was moved by some of her fans saying she was naïve... Spoiler: Thoughts... In an industry that just two months ago suffered yet another RKJ scandal (not to mention this week our Presidon't just picked a bumfight with the second most insecure dictator on the planet)... purity is something the Japanese and other fans turn to idols for. Working like a slave and dealing with all sorts of schoolyard nonsense at work in the often oppressive and Darwinian JDM shakai, you want to believe the world is more than that... hence why the industry was created there... Gatanee is a great fit for NGT -- despite what was said in the SR, we know she has plenty of talent in areas even the AKB mothership is struggling to find in their established idols as the most recent Nemousu showcased, re: variety skills. Her tsukkomi was something she was going to have to learn at her age with a nickname like 'Gatanee' (see Eito TaNao)... but she doesn't get dark or too masculine doing it either, which takes well, talent. Her experience with Baito also gave her a heads-up in situations dealing with the public, and ad-libbing when necessary to keep the flow going. Yet when those fans come up to her and claim things like she's naïve... all of this seems to suddenly disappear from their heads. Apparently, a lot of fans were saying this to her... it did disappoint me as a fellow fan (though not even close to hardcore). But she is trying to work on areas those people are finding fault with, she said, through tears as others consoled her. One thing I always found refreshing visiting family in Japan, is (at least your family) will tell you exactly what they're thinking. That's fine I suppose... but when those words fail to read the air properly, or ignore certain truths that undermine their words... it's frustrating when someone's hurt by the very people that are supposed to be supporting them. Maybe it's a Japanese thing. But being JA... I for one feel she handled this a lot better than I would've.
