I always appreciate girls who make a sincere effort to have me become their fan. So my handshake experience is a big key. The rest vary. Although the biggest "draw" factors for me are what I perceive as "pretty eyes", beautiful smile, and interesting personality that will surely make a fun handshake experience. However that last one can sometimes be misleading. There are many members who are quite different one on one than they are on television. Some for the better, others not so much. Perosonally I am happy with my list. It stretches completely across the ranking. Not top heavy, not bottom heavy. It has an pretty even split of members who are rising and falling in popularity. I used to give people flack for filling their list with top members. But this year it seems most of those people are newer fans, so I guess it is to be expected. That said, it made me happy to read this... Very refreshing to hear! I find it funny that a couple of people were saying Suda Akari comes across as "fake". I have never had that impression of her at all. In my experience she goes out of her way to make sure both she and her fans are having lots of fun. I don't think I have ever heard someone who has met her at an event accuse her of not being genuine. But what do I know? I have found a few members (very popular members in this forum I might add) to be less than sincere. That's just my experience, certainly not everyone's. To be fair, being a foreign fan can sometimes draw unusual reactions. Acchan used to get accused of being inauthentic quite often. But every time I met her she was very sweet. I would be one of those. And Kawaei just missed. I knew my Ikuta prediction was a reach. But after what BigC said about it being unpredictable, I started looking for a serious dark horse. Plus, the Nogizaka fandom has been growing here. It was also easy to predict Sayaka/Mariko/Tomochin dropping simply from the fact that they are graduates. I placed grads I had previously ranked in my top 5 much further down my list. I still like themjust as much as before, but they aren't AKB idols anymore. I thought the Paru detractors would again keep her from ranking in the Top 10. Perhaps this means more people are warming up to her? Yeah, it is very easy. I find myself falling into that trap all the time. At first I thought there was a lot of "fan spite" voting going on here. But after seeing these results, not so sure anymore. And that's a good thing. Hopefully more people realize it isn't really fair to penalize the idol her for perceived annoying fans. On the other hand, this "downvoting your oshi's rival" business seems to be a bit more prevalent. Maru/Haruppi is the classic example. Quite the juvenile little war going on there. Personally I am not a fan of the negative voting. My main reason being that I firmly believe most people use it for devious and superficial reasons. That's not to say there is never a reason to dislike an idol. But like BigC said, if people honestly revealed their full lists (positive and negative) I would bet my last dollar we would see some obvious patterns.

You Just described the difference between Despising an Idol cause you don't like their "fans" verses Despising the Idol herself - There is a fine but VERY clear line. My negatives #4 & #5 and partially my # 1 & #2 got negatives for this reason. It's not personal - just some fans rub "new fans" the wrong way- lol. PLease Elaborate!!!! if not OK - if you comfortable do it in a PM - I'm fascinated by your #1 choice. Again, not judging - just like finding out how people think. Anyway thanks for sharing.

I can honestly say I completely and utterly don't understand the idea of disliking a thing or person just because of who else does/does not like it. If some girl's fan annoys me, my annoyance is completely directed at whoever's being annoying. The member doesn't even come into it. Why should she? She has nothing to do with how Annoying Guy acts unless she explicitly tells her fans to act that way. The notion of basing an opinion of someone on other people leaves me seriously scratching my head.

Re: The 2013 Stage48 Member Ranking Results (Ranks 11-25!) Honestly, I'd really like to agree here since this is the most logical thing but I'd be completely hypocritical. In my case it isn't that I actively dislike the girl in question, but I just can't look at her without feeling annoyed because of how incessant some fans I know were. I think a lot of negative votes againt Meru, since people were questioning this earlier, for example are because of similar oversaturation. (Management push more so than fan push in that situation) Luckily you can't really take votes or handshake slots away from a girl in real life, so it doesn't really matter in the long run.

In something like the member ranking, that does not actually affect the girls, downvoting a member based on their fans' behavior makes a lot of sense IMO. If a member gets a lot of minus points then people will question why said member is so disliked. If multiple people say they don't like that member because of their fans it could be a wake up call for the fanbase that they may think "hey if my behavior is making people dislike my Oshi, maybe I should clean up my act..."

If all those members give a -5 to Takamina, Takamina gets -250 points and goes down, down, down the ranking. Takamina won't be affected in any way, but you will be sad and wonder why so many members dislike her...so, in the end, those members will have achieved their goal...of course, the less important the girl the fewer members it takes to make that 'false hate' noticeable...

I could care less how many guys she sleeps with, but her overreaction gave AKB48 and the fandom a black eye internationally. I actually like her when I first started. She was one of the more interesting girl in AKBingo. I even gave her votes last year.

Because I know a lot of people don't really think about the consequences of their words and actions (everywhere, not just online) and some people may think they have reputations of being a dedicated fan rather than an irritating one. Still, giving negative points for a girl for something that isn't their fault is iffy, but in a place like this, where it doesn't affect the girls, it isn't as problematic. I started getting out my psychology side but you summed it up easily. I think I have that reputation about Tomo in places

But you can be using that as well as an excuse to dislike a member, or even could be related to the person's culture to see things like this... but we must policy ourselves to see the difference between a fan and a member and to put the guilt where it belongs. Worst case scenario: hate the fan not the member... I think this sort of transfer rather dangerous in our daily lives... As for the negative votes I did not use it... because in this case i rather ignore a member than actively dislike her...

I think @cristafari explained quite well the situation : - Next time we should make mandatory a reason why you downvote a member , or the vote won't be counted - We stop the downvote system. It is very irritating for me to see someone downvote Haruppi and i don't know why. PS : Compared to AKB, SKE and NMB, it is the HKT front row who suffered the most of the downvote. Compared to twitter, Stage48 is a place where i can appreciate constructed argument and POV. I want to keep that. If people badmouth AKB members on Stage48 (same as downvote for no reason) like on Twitter, then the forum loose a lot of his value.
