I always think it's really meaningless to compare japanese & western artists on global charts, because the japanese ones tend to get high spots on the charts just because of how exponential their sales seem to be. AKB could beat Lady Gaga with their 1st week sales, but her overall sales would still end up being at least 5 times larger. There's just no comparison between the size of the markets. Western artists are selling all over the globe while japanese ones basically sell in Japan and a little bit in the rest of Asia.

Really want something to confirm this. It's obviously a given that they've done it and I want to say CONGRATULATIONS! to the girls.

No, what I meant is this: In an Oricon year! Beginner got close, but did not get, a million in the 2010 Oricon year! This is the first million-seller single in an Oricon year in a long time!

Congratulations on a great start for AKB48 this year!
