I translate a few of the songs just for myself, but like you said, translating lyrics is much harder than translating just conversation or regular text. So many places to go wrong or not enough space to really explain something. So it's not really something I'm aiming to do. I think threads like this are much better.

 

Point of Information - Ladies and gentleman, I'll admit that Japanese is not my first language, nor will I venture to say that it's my second language considering that I'm not as proficient with it as I'd like to be. With that said, I probably make at least a thousand and one mistakes with these translations. I'm human, and that's what I do - make at least a thousand and one mistakes. But those mistakes are great opportunities for me to learn and grow. If I botch a line or two on a song, big deal - I'll make the proper correction, and then carry on as a wiser person than before.

So once again - without further ado, here's the translation!

Thanks for all the translations! I'm actually trying to avoid seeing some of them, as I'm trying to do translations of those songs. That way, when I'm done, I'll have something to compare against. Special thanks for doing Anata to Christmas Eve. I did take a quick peek at your translation, against my better judgement. and the part that I peeked at looked good.

I don't know if this is the right forum for this, but I've been working on a language learning tool for Japanese song lyrics. It creates web pages that pops up the definition of a phrase when the mouse is moved over it. I figured it might be useful as a learning tool. I know something similar has been done before, but I wanted a tool that would let me create lyrics web pages without editing HTML.

Is there anyone interested in the web pages I'm creating, or the tool I used to create them?

Is there another forum where discussing this might be more appropriate?

Speaking of translations, seeing as everyone is sharing things, here's a rough one of Higurashi no Koi. If anyone thinks someone should be changed, by all means let me know! Like I said, I'm not much into sharing these really, I just do them for myself to get a general idea of what's going on, so they're not perfect.

Cicadas are kind of like, the changing of the seasons I guess. A signal that the times are changing, hence the constant mention of them. Her life is also changing, just like the seasons.

 

Based on a quick review, I'd say the translation of the first Japanese verse is the first English verse. The fourth Japanese verse translates to the second English verse. I could be wrong, I'll settle for half your soul. Bwahaha.. Just kidding

 

Kyobu, I think you owe me something...and no, I'm not kidding . I'm willing to accept your soul in installments - with interest.

A little comment - I know this song's been already translated and released by at least one other fansubbing group, but I figured I'd take a stab at translating it anyway.

qilver, here's "Koike" as you requested. I apologize that it took a while since it was a tough song to translate. I looked it over several times to understand the overall conext as well as to make sure the English flowed well without losing the original meaning. Sadly, the last-minute adjustments were a bit hasty as I've done them in between my classes, but I hope my attempt at the song proves to be satisfactory.

Cultural Side Note - From what I gathered, Garigari-kun is a brand of scented soaps shaped like popsicles (*shrugs*). Anyway, I've gathered that the narrator is bitter that her ex-boyfriend left her for another girl - I interpret the person to be the narrator's friend. In this context, the Garigari-kun soaps are an indication that the narrator is indulging in herself rather than in her ex-boyfriend.

EDIT: Garigari-kun is actually a type of ice-cream bar in Japan. The correction is stated in the post following this one, but I figured I'd mention it here as well.
