HKT48 (short for Hakata48) is a Japanese idol group and the 3rd sister group of AKB48. Since 2020, the group has their own theater at BOSS E-ZO Fukuoka in Fukuoka (previously they were performing at Nishitetsu Hall, Scala Espacio and Papillion 24 Gas Hall, which weren't their own theater). The 1st generation members were announced on October 23, 2011 and debuted on November 26, 2011.

Overview
- The origin of the group name is from the place name "Hakata" (博多) in Fukuoka Prefecture . However, the location of the HKT48 Theater is not included in the scope of Hakata.
- Regarding the color of HKT48, Sato Kazuya, who was the theater manager at the time, answered:
- “SKE is strong in dance and NMB is strong in variety, but what is HKT's color? Akimoto Yasushi said "become the best group". If more competitiveness develops, a little more color may come out... I personally want to be a singing group because there are many girls who want to be singers in their future dreams.”
- In 2012, Sashihara Rino and Ota Aika were transferred to HKT48 from AKB48. This was the first time a 48G member who had Senbatsu experience was completely transferred to another group, excluding SDN48. The transfer of Sashihara, who was a regular Senbatsu member of AKB48 at the time, had a great impact on the group's activities and allowed them to participate in regular TV and radio programs.
